Throughout January we will be posting articles reminding us of our mission at Discover Community Church. We all can be distracted and forget our mission, either in business, in a family, or in a church. In the military the mission is defined and spoken over and over. Every soldier knows the mission and knows his or her role in the mission. Lives depend on it. The Church has a mission of making disciples of all nations, but each local church has a specific mission in their sphere of influence—their role in the larger mission. Eternally, lives depend on it.

But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Corinthians 12:7
Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it. 1 Corinthians 12:27

Discover Community Church Mission Statement
Discover Community Church is a place where the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:27) will be encouraged* and equipped to use our spiritual gifts (1 Cor 12:7) in order to actively care for our neighboring community, and to be doers of the word, and not merely hearers. (James 1:22) * Encouraged by witnessing the fruit of local outreach first-hand. Equipped by the ongoing study of the Word to hear His direction.

Read our mission statement through several times and ponder the meaning. The statement is brief yet it is packed with significance about our identity as individual believers and our marching orders as a church. The mission statement of Discover Community Church was provided by revelation from God! Our pastors delivered it to us from the Holy Spirit. We’re on a mission from God in our little neighboring community! He isn’t calling us, as Discover Community Church, to save the world—He is calling us to actively care for our neighboring community.

It is easy to get caught up in the massive issues going on in our nation and in the world. It is so overwhelming that we can give in to discouragement. We can become disillusioned and begin believing that we are nobody against these giants. The good thing about today’s technology is that we are daily made aware of world events. The bad thing about today’s technology is that we are daily made aware of world events!

As a body, a family, of our local church our first mission is to be a family by helping one another and following our leaders to propel our ship forward. All hands on deck! As we each take ownership of our church we will distribute the load among the many and prevent the few from being worn out. It is far easier to move through rough waters when all of us are helping. Many hands make light work! The first churches were community churches and these communities eventually changed the world! As each one of us is inspired by love to follow our mission and participate, God will bless our obedience and expand our horizons.

With the many successes we had in 2018 we are still a new church building our foundation. A strong foundation is a church where all of the body participates in the work—and we all experience the fruit! As we are faithful in little we will be given more!

May we each respond to humbly do whatever is needed to move our church forward in 2019. We love because he first loved us!
