For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

The scripture most often referenced when groups come together to pray for the nation is 2 Chronicles 7:14. Today, we will pray for our political leaders from the Ephesians 6:12 perspective. As citizens we want to believe that politicians (especially the ones we personally vote for) always have our best interest at heart. However, reality is that politicians often answer to power that is greater than the voters. It’s often the power of money, but sometimes it is blackmail or other forms of spiritual darkness.

Let us intercede for our political leaders not for what they can do for us, but in what we can do for them, through Jesus.

Pray the listed items:

  • Pray for a Holy spiritual assault from every direction into the political system for the sake of those held captive to it.
  • Pray for God to expose and break the strongholds of power that control the political system.
  • Pray for protection from physical harm to politicians and their families.
  • Pray for humbling of our political leaders that brings them to repentance, salvation, and freedom in Jesus Christ.

Pray for us and yourself:

  • Pray for us to live courageously in the Gospel and not allow politics to take precedence over the Gospel. [Colossians 3:1-3]
  • Acknowledge to God any weaknesses in this area and confess any sin that may be in your way.

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:14-15
